Blood, Xray and scan results require an appointment with your doctor

Your health is important to us. Generally blood tests, xrays and scans are only a part of your health assessment. Usually the doctor will need to discuss any abnormal results and sometimes order more tests even if all results are normal. Your doctor will also assess if you are improving or if your symptoms are getting worse. It is a good idea to book your review appointment with the same doctor that orders the tests and before you leave the surgery. There are a few exceptions to this in patients who are having regular frequent blood tests.

At Gold City Medical Centre we treat patients not xray/ultrasound CT scan reports. If your results are abnormal the doctor will need to explain the scans and follow up treatment. If your scans are normal then the doctor may need to look for a different cause for your symptoms. This can not be done over the telephone. Scans are done to help the doctor with managing your problems and it is important to discuss the results with your doctor. You should never assume that if your tests are normal that you don't need to be seen again. It is usually best to book your follow up appointment with the same doctor. If you are only having blood tests done a review can be done about 1 week after you initially see the doctor. If you are having xrays or scans done then usually these can be organised within 2 weeks.

In patients who are having regular blood tests because of diabetes or other long term illnesses, we will try to organise your blood tests for a few days before the next regular review with your doctor. This way you are not needing to make an extra appointment to discuss your blood test results.

Pap smear results are given over the telephone if they are normal. However if there is a problem on your smear you will be asked to make an appointment and discuss the abnormality with your doctor. In most cases the abnormality is not serious but may mean that your next smear will need to be done sooner.

INR results are given over the telephone. We ask that you ring for your result late in the afternoon following your blood test. Remember, INR testing needs to be done at least once every month.
