Health Assessments

Over 75 or Indigenous, Pre-school or Pre-employment

We offer a wide range of full health checks, some fully medicare funded.

Medicare funded

Your health is important. Medicare provides specific rebates for a health assessment for those in our community who suffer from chronic illnesses. These health assessment are currently fully funded by Medicare. Those eligible include:

  • All patients over 75 years of age

  • All patients with an intellectual disability.

  • All patients of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander heritage.

  • All residence of aged care facilities.

Medicare also fully funds one health assessment for everyone aged 45-49 years who is at risk of developing long term illnesses.

Womans and Mens Health checks

Our practice can also do a full health check every two (2) years for women at the time of their pap smear. Men’s health checks particularly after age 50, can be organised with any of our doctors. These checks all generally require a long consultation and Medicare will cover approximately half the cost of these health checks except if you are eligible for our lower concession fee.

Childrens Health Check

It is recommended that all children have a health check between ages 3 and 5 years. Our nurses do some initial assessments before our doctors do a thorough examination of your child. You will then have time to discuss both your concerns and the nurses concerns with your doctor. This is generally a long consultation and Medicare will cover about half of your consultation fee unless you are eligible for our lower concession fee.

Employment Medicals

Our practice does employment medicals for many mining companies and other businesses within Charters Towers and surrounding areas. As every company has different requirements, we require your paperwork on the day of your medical. Our practice does not perform any coal board medicals and instant drug and alcohol test.

Work medicals are not covered by Medicare and you will need to discuss with your employer as to who will be paying for the medical. Our fees for employment medicals can be obtained from reception.
