Doctors
Our medical practice has doctors at all stages of their medical career. Three of our senior doctors provide supervision to registras, which our practice has been facilitating for over 30 years. We employ early career overseas trained doctors. Townsville University Hospital junior doctors rotate through our practice every 10 weeks. University medical students are attached to our practice throughout their university terms.
We assist all new doctors with both relocation and accommodation. We own a three bedroom Locum’s house which we try to make available for your arrival and your initial months in Charters Towers. We are currently renting a unit in town to further assist our new doctors to the area. We also have an established relationship with a real estate company in town who can assist you to find your perfect home for rental or purchase.
All doctors including registrars are immediately busy, seeing a wide variety of general practice cases. For doctors training for fellowship, we provide extra examination preparation after hours and have had award winning registrars in the past. We provide extra opportunities to learn skin cancer medicine including diagnosis and treatment of melanoma. We teach excision techniques including flaps and grafts. There are also opportunities to work with a Geriatrician, focusing on Geriatric medicine and Palliative care.
Our practice is responsible for two residential aged care facilities. At the other end of life, we offer childhood immunisations and with three boarding schools in town, you can get great experience in adolescent medicine. If you love emergency medicine, you can work part-time at our practice and part-time at the Charters Towers Hospital. Most of our doctors live in town, however some provide telehealth consultations remotely with periodic visits to Charters Towers.
Our practice is well supported by the local hospital and by specialists based in Townsville. We have a visiting cardiologist, renal physician and orthopaedic surgeon. We work in a team care model with nurses and allied health working from our practice. Our doctors have varied work arrangements including full time, part time, and telehealth.
If you are training for your fellowship consider spending some time at our practice. For qualified Australian doctors thinking of transferring to Charters Towers from city practice, why not trial working here first as a locum. Consider coming out in school holidays, bring your family and feel how great it is to be 5 minutes from everywhere. We also encourage overseas trained doctors to apply to work at our practice. Should you wish to join our team please contact our Practice Manager at .
Nurses
Our practice is regularly looking for nurses to join our team. Nursing in general practice is varied and challenging. Our nurses manage acutely unwell patients within our emergency area before they are transferred by ambulance to the hospital. They assist with minor procedures and do the dressings for wounds and chronic ulcers. They are responsible for ECGs, spirometry, hearing tests, vision tests and minimental state examinations. The nurses are responsible for both giving and recording all childhood vaccinations. Our nurses assist the doctor in the care of chronic diseases including diabetes, asthma and kidney disease. Should you wish to join our team either as a full time or part time basis please contact our practice manager at .
Receptionists
Our practice has a very busy reception area and our receptionists have a challenging job. We are periodically looking for new reception staff and will advertise these jobs on www.seek.com.au or Facebook page.
