About Dr Shin Sakata
Gold City Medical Centre is pleased to introduce Associate Professor Shinichiro Sakata, our new visiting General and Colorectal Surgeon.
Shin graduated from Monash University and completed general surgery training in Queensland. Shin then completed three further years of formal colorectal surgery training in top institutions, including Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, UK, Mayo Clinic, USA and Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Australia. Shin is board-certified with the Australia and New Zealand Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery and is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Shin’s passion in research and education has resulted in 50 first-author research papers and book chapters, as well as multiple international scholarships, awards, and grant support. Shin was awarded a PhD in colorectal surgery from the University of Queensland (Dean's Award, thesis accepted without correction) and holds the position of Associate Professor in the College of Medicine at James Cook University.
In addition to General Surgery (e.g. gall bladder disease and hernias), Shin offers world-class care in the entire spectrum of colorectal surgery including colonoscopy, haemorrhoids, faecal incontinence, diverticulitis, and colorectal cancer. Shin also specialises in robotic surgery.
Shin is excited to bring his skills and expertise to patients in Charters Towers and aims to provide the highest standard of care that is also affordable to all patients. Shin works one Saturday each month at Gold City Medical Centre and aims to see all referred patients promptly.
Please note: Shin will see patients privately at Gold City Medical Centre and is happy to refer publicly to The Townsville Hospital for any procedures required.
